Civil engineering is all about what is build, designed, imagine and maintained to live in this modern lifestyle. we use: rods to travel, building to live, airport to fly, infrastructure for growth of economy, drinking water to survive, sea ports for cargo transfer international and bridges to jump over. 
These all facilities that we are enjoying because of civil engineers, who work hard to develop new ideas and research in civil engineering. This is second most important engineering after military engineering.
we touched with these civil technologies throughout the day whenever go for shower and bath, drive to office, fly for vocation and sleep under the roof. The first self-proclaimed civil engineer was John Smeaton, who was build the Eddystone Lighthouse. In 1771 Smeaton and some of his colleagues formed the Smeatonian Society of Civil Engineers civil engineering have brief history that we can't share at here at all because this field is very old and has many branches.

TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING
Transportation is a sub part of civil engineering which only deal with mode for transportation. As we are know that every one need to travel from one place to another so that need a path whether its is road, sea, air, railway and other mean of transport. This sub-discipline of civil engineering construct, plan, design and maintain these mode of transportation.
